COERR Supports the New Volunteer Groups

   On 12 August 2000, COERR by Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu and Rev. Fr. Joseph Pibul Visitnondachai, established the COERR Volunteer Groups.

   At present, there are 30 Volunteer groups in Bangkok and vicinity, 16 groups in Sakon Nakhon and vicinity, and 8 groups in Ubon Ratchathani, Nongbua Lampu and Loei provinces.

   Each group receives members with volunteering spirit to help community work. Presently there are about 500 volunteer members all over the country.

   In general, the volunteer groups has organized fund raising activity in order to help poor people who are affected from disasters; provide construction materials to those vulnerables in need of house repair, award certificates for people who usually help others, such as outstanding women, etc.

   On April 10, meeting is held among COERR Volunteer groups at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Ta Bom, Khao Kaew sub-district, Chiang Khan District, Loei Province, on the occasion of establishment of new volunteer groups in Loei and Nong Bua Lamphu Provinces. There were 37 participants attending this volunteer capacity building ceremony.

   In April, the volunteer groups in Sakhon Nakhon Province perform activities such as paying home visits and providing health care and haircut for elderly, teaching children in raising earthworm. In addition, during Songkran or Traditional Thai New year Festival, volunteer groups organized a campaign for road accident reduction and help the travellers in need, etc.
